Canadian terrorist shot dead by soldiers, Somali government says
Globe and Mail
Canadian terrorist shot dead by soldiers, Somali government says Somali government forces says they have killed a Canadian member of the al-Shabab terrorist group. Photos posted to state-run radio’s website Thursday showed a young man who had been shot through the chest by soldiers after his SUV had allegedly tried to run a roadblock. Ottawa officials are looking into the case. “At this time, we are unable to confirm media reports of a Canadian national having been killed in the Jubba region while involved in insurgent activities,” said Claude Rochon, a spokeswoman for Foreign Affairs.
Soldiers in Somalia identified the dead man to local media as “Muhan Jeans,” who they said was militant who went by the nom de guerre “Abdelrahman the Canadian.” They said they seized a Canadian passport, but did not show it. “According to what we’re getting from Mogadishu, and what we know, the guy is a Somali-Canadian,” said Omar Jamal, a Somali living in Minnesota. He serves as a spokesman for the Transitional Federal Government’s mission to the United Nations. In North America, concern is mounting about young radicals recruited to become jihadi warriors in Somalia.
Just last month, a Somali-American from Minneapolis was killed as he tried to launch a suicide attack against government forces. In Canada, counterterrorism agents have stepped up investigations into cases of young men and women who have suddenly departed Canada for Somalia. A few suspects have turned up as dead militants. Several have not been heard from. This spring, one man was arrested at Toronto’s Pearson Airport and charged with terrorism offences, as police accused him of travelling abroad with the intent of joining al-Shabab.
**REPORTS INDICATE THAT HE WAS A MAJEERTEEN (OSMAN-MAHAMOUD SUB-CLAN)

MAJORITY-DAROD TERRORIST GROUP AL-SHABBAB CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY IN THE MURDER OF THE INTERIOR MINISTER!!!!!!
MOGADISHU (Reuters) -
Somalia's Al Shabaab rebels said on Saturday they were behind the killing of Interior Minister Abdi Shakur Sheikh Hassan after they planted a bomb under his bed at his house in the capital Mogadishu. An Islamist forum website carried a message saying Al Shabaab movement had taken responsibility for the killing. "By the grace of God Almighty, the interior minister of the apostate government and its national security (interior) minister was killed in the afternoon on Friday...a bomb exploded planted by the mujahideen inside the home, specifically under his bed. After the blast he was taken to hospital but nothing was left, only a rotten corpse," the message said. Abdi Shaur, the minister's driver, had said on Friday that he believed the minister was killed by a female suicide bomber, thought to be his cousin. The attack, which caused no other casualties, was seen by analysts as a retaliatory hit by al Shabaab insurgents after a sustained government push against them, in which the minister was a key figure. Police said they had detained two suspects from the minister's house, including a brother of the suspected suicide bomber.Mogadishu and other parts of Somalia have witnesses two days of protests, with demonstrators railing against a deal to extend the mandates of the president and parliament. Hundreds of supporters of the prime minister, who must resign under the terms of the deal, marched through the city's rubble-strewn streets chanting support for him. Somalia has been without an effective central government since the overthrow of dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991. First clan warlords and now al Shabaab Islamist insurgents ensured the government controls little territory outside parts of the capital Mogadishu.
